Tour Route

Hotel pickup in Cusco

Breakfast in Mollepata (2,900m)

06:30 AM approx.

We depart by tourist bus to Mollepata (2,900 m.a.s.l.) for a 2-hour journey where we have breakfast and receive guide instructions.

Hike to Soraypampa (17 km)

07:30 AM approx.

We begin a 7-hour, 17 km ascending hike to Soraypampa campsite. During this hike you can see the peaks of Salkantay and Humantay glaciers, as well as local wildlife.

Soraypampa – Campsite and stargazing

Evening

Rest at our established campsites. At night you can see shooting stars, constellations and the sunrise over Salkantay glacier.

Soraypampa → Salkantay Pass (4,638m)

Very early

We depart very early from Soraypampa after breakfast for a 22 km total hike. This is the highest point — the Salkantay Pass at 4,638 m.a.s.l., where you see the surrounding glaciers in all their splendor.

Descent to Chaullay (2,900m)

After the pass

We descend from the Salkantay Pass to Chaullay (2,900 m.a.s.l.) through rocky and tropical forests, crossing rivers — an impressive experience with changing microclimates.

Chaullay – Campsite

Afternoon

Chaullay is our second rest point and overnight campsite.

Challhuay → Sawayaco (1,645m) – 14 km hike

After breakfast

After breakfast we continue 14 km toward Santa Teresa through valleys with cacao, banana, avocado plantations, orchids and abundant flora, arriving at Sawayaco (1,645 m.a.s.l.).

Santa Teresa – Rest and overnight

Afternoon

From Sawayaco we hike to Santa Teresa for rest and overnight after a day of hiking through tropical forest trails.

Santa Teresa → Llactapata (16 km)

After breakfast

We hike 16 km from Santa Teresa toward the Inca Trail site called Llactapata, with agricultural terraces and ceremonial buildings, offering views of Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu.

Hike to Aguas Calientes via Hidroeléctrica

Midday

We hike to Aguas Calientes passing through Hidroeléctrica along tropical jungle trails and railroad tracks.

Aguas Calientes – Hotel

Evening

We rest and stay overnight at a hotel in Aguas Calientes.

Sunrise at Machu Picchu

04:00 AM

The great day arrives after 5 days of magnificent trekking — sunrise at Machu Picchu.

Huayna Picchu (optional)

Per reservation

Those who reserved Huayna Picchu can climb 45 minutes to the summit — a unique experience with a natural puma-shaped offering altar.

Guided tour of Machu Picchu

2 hours

A 2-hour guided tour covering the Inca citadel: Intihuatana observatory, Temple of the Three Windows, Temple of the Sun and residential sectors.

After guided tour

Time to take all the photos you desire.

Return: Bus + Train → Cusco

Afternoon

After a wonderful day, descend on foot or take the bus to Aguas Calientes, then the train back to Cusco. We conclude the Salkantay Trek with a unique and unforgettable experience.
