Duration: 5 hours (half day). Schedule: 08:30 AM to 2:30 PM.
08:00 AM
To begin the Maras Moray tour, we pick you up from your hotel starting at 08:00 AM.
09:00 AM approx.
Our first stop is the town of Maras, gateway to the "Maras Salt Mines" characterized by over 5,000 pink salt pools and warm water springs channeled through thousands of shallow ponds. In Inca times, this archaeological site served for purification rituals used in festivities associated with the summer solstice on December 21st. Today, salt production is the main economic activity of the Maras population.
10:00 AM approx.
After visiting the Maras Salt Mines, we head to the archaeological site of Moray, extending above 3,200 meters altitude, irrigated by natural springs. Moray is famous for its circular terraces that took advantage of a natural depression, believed to be an Inca agricultural experimentation center achieving diverse microclimates. It features ceremonial fountains and concentric terraces with temperature variations of up to 5°C, allowing cultivation of products from different regions of Peru.
11:00 AM approx.
Our last stop is Chinchero, whose name derives from Quechua meaning "brave man", built on top of a hill surrounded by terraces. It features shrines, an urban center where the residence of Inca Tupac Inca Yupanqui was located. It is characterized by maintaining its urban style and textile art made with alpaca fibers by locals.
1:30 – 2:30 PM approx.
We conclude this magnificent Maras Moray tour with the return to Cusco.
