The Salkantay Trek is one of the top 25 treks in the world, a unique experience through impressive landscapes to majestic Machu Picchu. Along the route, you will reach 4,650 m.a.s.l., enjoying the imposing view of Salkantay, the second highest glacier in Cusco, plus the diversity of tropical flora and fauna.

This journey takes you along ancestral trails that form part of the Inca Trail, culminating with the magical sunrise at Machu Picchu.

Day 1

Hotel pickup in Cusco

Breakfast in Mollepata (2,900m)

We depart by tourist bus to Mollepata (2,900 m.a.s.l.) for breakfast and guide instructions.

Hike to Soraypampa (17 km)

07:00 AM approx.

A 7-hour, 17 km hike to Soraypampa with views of Salkantay and Humantay glacier peaks. Soraypampa is our first rest point and overnight campsite.

Soraypampa – Campsite and stargazing

Evening

Rest at campsites. At night enjoy shooting stars, constellations and sunrise views of Salkantay glacier.

Day 2

Soraypampa → Salkantay Pass (4,638m)

Very early

Early departure from Soraypampa after breakfast for a 22 km total hike. The highest point — Salkantay Pass at 4,638 m.a.s.l. — where you see the surrounding glaciers in all their splendor.

Descent to Chaullay (2,900m)

After the pass

Descent from Salkantay Pass to Chaullay (2,900 m.a.s.l.) through rocky and tropical forests, crossing rivers with impressive changing microclimates.

Chaullay – Campsite

Afternoon

Chaullay is our second rest point and overnight campsite.

Day 3

Chaullay → Santa Teresa (26 km)

After breakfast

We continue 26 km toward Aguas Calientes. First, hiking to Santa Teresa through valleys with cacao, banana, avocado plantations, orchids and abundant flora.

Santa Teresa → Hidroeléctrica

Midday

We head to Hidroeléctrica through tropical jungle trails.

Hidroeléctrica → Aguas Calientes

After lunch

A 3-hour hike from Hidroeléctrica along trails and railroad tracks to Aguas Calientes.

Aguas Calientes – Hotel

Evening

Rest and stay overnight at a hotel in Aguas Calientes.

Day 4

Sunrise at Machu Picchu

The most awaited day — the beautiful sunrise at Machu Picchu. We wake up at 4:00 AM.

Huayna Picchu (optional)

Per reservation

Those who reserved Huayna Picchu can climb 45 minutes to the summit with a natural puma-shaped offering altar.

Guided tour of Machu Picchu

2 hours

A 2-hour guided tour: Intihuatana, Temple of the Three Windows, Temple of the Sun and residential sectors.

Free time for photos

After guided tour

Time to take all the photos you desire.

Return: Bus + Train → Cusco

Afternoon

Descend on foot or take the bus to Aguas Calientes, then the train back to Cusco. We conclude the Salkantay Trek with a unique and unforgettable experience.
