PISAC SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS

32 kilometers northeast of Cusco, we can locate Pisac located at the beginning of the Sacred Valley of the Incas which stands on a natural formation.

Pisac is a must-see town for any visitor who wants to visit or learn more about the town of Pisac, which maintains its narrow streets with Inca architecture that to this day are preserved and give life to this town with a lot of Inca, colonial history and legends that hides this town.

One of the characteristics of Pisac is that the people are very friendly and most people speak Quechua language, the predominant language of the area. In the town of Pisac there are many people who are dedicated to the production of handicrafts and if you are lucky enough to meet one of them it would be great just to walk around and see shops that offer their crafts and are showing you the art of their production, if you are interested in visiting the archaeological site of Pisac, we must take the buses that lead us from the same town to the archaeological site which takes an average of 25 to 30 minutes.

If you have an organized tour with a travel agency this will not be a problem to visit the archaeological site of Pisac.

This archaeological site is formed by neighborhoods and several squares, among them the Intihuatana, the largest pre-Hispanic cemetery located in South America, terraces and aqueducts.

Pisac is also known as an astronomical observatory.

The Inca constructions of Pisaq are admired by the sets of platforms or terraces located in the mountains, these are surrounded by observation points.

  • TERRACES: In the archaeological site there are terraces such as “ACCHAPATA” characterized by 40 terraces in the form of an inverted triangle, that is to say you can observe the smallest terrace or terrace when we start to ascend.
  • TOWERS: It has about 20 towers which are:

Housing towers (characterized by having conical or cone-shaped which are attached to water channels).

Atalaya towers (They are elevations of land, the most important is located in the sector of Qoriwayrachina).

  • NEIGHBORHOODS: Among the most important neighborhoods in this archaeological site are:

“Intiwatana neighborhood”, where we can find temples and palaces of fine architectural finishes, here we can find the Intiwatana.

“Tianayuc neighborhood “: Its translation indicates “It has seat” small neighborhood that has a central courtyard where you can see a kind of seat or stone sofa.

 “KallaQasa neighborhood “: It is located at the top of the mountain in which highlights a tunnel of 3 meters in length as well as what leaves us more impressed is that it has around it several cliffs.

“Pisaca neighborhood “: This was built lowering the ground level, has a semicircular shape, according to the shape of the mountain.

 “Qanchis Raqay neighborhood “: It presents many constructions, it is said that this would be a checkpoint of the northeastern area of the town of Pisaq, before being able to enter Machu Picchu.

PISAC MARKET:

It is a very important traditional market in Inca times and after that, people still maintain their customs, this market is held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Also on Sundays in its ancient temple masses are held in the Quechua language, here are attended by people of the town as well as the mayors or Varayoc from different communities that are around who dress in their typical clothes that identify them and are part of their culture.

You can enter Pisac with either the Partial Tourist Ticket (Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Chinchero and Moray archaeological sites) or with the General Tourist Ticket.
