The meaning of the Humantay lake comes from the Quechua language “huma” or “Uma” which means head of the gods, this name comes from the location of the snowcapped Salkantay (6271 m.a.s.l.) which is a mountain (Apus) considered sacred to the Incas, because they are the snowy who provide the element of life that is water.
